Data Challenge

The College of Information Studies, the School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, and the Philip Merrill College of Journalism present Data Challenge 2020! This multidisciplinary data exploration event will engage UMD students, researchers, and industry experts in creatively integrating datasets for social good.

During Data Challenge 2020 students will:

•Gain analytical experience by working with real-world problems
•Build technical aptitude integrating datasets to create multidisciplinary knowledge
•Obtain experience working in teams of up to 4 students and a mentor
•Network with a variety of organizations and make connections with data professionals

The teams will work together on a project that will:
•Include a dataset from an organization like yours
•Answer a unique question OR evaluate information about the dataset to formulate a unique question
•Incorporate open data from 3rd party services, APIs, and open source libraries
•Present the final results to a panel of judges

Students from across the University of Maryland will work together to address a social cause, show off their skills, and make contributions to create something innovative!
